BIO ENTRY FOR: Lieutenant N. Reich
SERIAL NUMBER: 100967
Lt. N. "Doum Doum" Reich received his nickname partly for his prior profession as a belly dance drummer in which the bass that comes from playing sounds like “doum”, and after he accidently alerted the Cylons to the location of the entire fleet - an incident that enraged Colonel Tigh so much, he was quoted by Combat Infromation Center crewmembers as bellowing "That fool nearly doomed the entire frakkin’ fleet!"
Before the attack on the colonies, Lt. N. Reich made a decent living as a belly dancer drummer accompanying his wife, Lt. K. Reich (a.k.a. "Shimmy"), a belly dancer herself. The two of them toured various colonies performing together and had a modest reputation as entertainers within the solar system - a considered success to their family back on the quiet farming colony of Aerelon. Timing was on their side the day the colonies were attacked - the couple were on the Zephyr being transported to Libris for a belly dance convention.
In the days afterwards, Lt. N. Reich and his wife found a little work on the luxury liner Cloud Nine entertaining the ships passengers who would not relinquish their extravagant entertainment lifestyle even amidst the devastation of the colonies. This worked towards Lt. N. Reich and Lt. K. Reich’s advantage as their performances for the passengers earned them room and board within Cloud Nine’s cargo hold – plush accommodations when compared to most survivor’s living quarters in the fleet.
After the battle on New Caprica, which caused the loss of many Galactica pilots, Lt. N. Reich and Lt. K. Reich’s gave up the life of entertainers and volunteered as candidate pilots. Lt. N. Reich was inducted into service on the Battelstar Galactica, earned his Viper pilot’s wings, and was assigned to Viper Squadron, Bravo Flight.
Lt. N. Reich became known for passing the long boring hours of patrol by playing air drums on his cockpit instruments, sometimes verbalizing his percussion strikes by saying "doum doum" for the bass over the radio. Lt. N. Reich had been reprimanded by his flight commander a number of times for doing this, warning that someday Lt. N. Reich would hit the wrong button at the wrong time. That day came while on escort of the fleet, who was rapidly moving out of sector to avoid being spotted by Cylons reported to be just out of DRADIS range. Faster Than Light drives could not be used for fear of nearby Cylons picking up the massive energy bursts. While moving out, Lt. N. Reich was again passing the time by playing drums in the cockpit when he accidently hit the FTL override button and jumped. Although he was able to quickly return to the fleet, his jump had sent out an energy burst that any Cylon within 100 light years would have seen with its DRADIS turned off. With their position given away, the entire fleet made two emergency jumps; one to leave the immediate area and another to hopefully lose any tracking Cylons. Afterwards, a furious Colonel Tigh was quoted as yelling loud enough for all within the Combat Information Center to hear "That fool nearly doomed the entire frakkin’ fleet!". Thus, Lt. N. Reich earned his nickname "Doum Doum", was given 30 days probation, and ordered back to flight school for retraining.
Upon reaching Earth, Lt. N. Reich and his wife chose to be placed in the lands between the fourth and fifth major continents. This area is primarily desert land but the people there clearly have a culture rich with song and dance.

BIO ENTRY FOR: Lieutenant K. Reich
SERIAL NUMBER: 100968
Lt. K. "Shimmy" Reich received her nickname from Chief Tyrol who was shocked upon realizing why Lt. Reich kept bringing back her Raptor with broken engine mounts. Unbeknownst to Chief, Lt. Reich was a former belly dancer trained on Caprica. While making solo landings in her Raptor as a trainee, Lt. Reich would shimmy in her seat - a subconscious response to the nervousness every new solo pilot feels. Shimmying while sitting in a Raptor’s pilot seat causes the feet to push back and forth very quickly against the rudder petals. Doing this causes little motion in the front of the Raptor where Lt. Reich was sitting as the pilot, but does cause the tail section was shake back and forth so violently that damage can occur, such as engine mounts breaking. Chief, confused as to why Lt. Reich’s engine mounts kept breaking and not knowing of her nervous habit, decided to personally observe Lt. Reich during one of her solo flights. As Lt. Reich was coming in for her landing, she began to shimmy and once again, the tail section of her Raptor began to violently shake stressing the engine mounts to their breaking point – and Chief too. Upon seeing this, an aghast Chief was heard yelling into the radio "By the Gods Reich! This ain't one of your frakking belly dance shows! Quit shimming my Raptor or I'll personally tie your hips down to the frakking seat next time! ...frakkin’ shimmy!"
Before the attack on the colonies, Lt. Reich made a decent living as a belly dancer accompanied by her belly dance drummer husband, Lt. N. Reich (a.k.a. "Doum Doum").
K. Reich and her husband found a little work on the luxury liner Cloud Nine entertaining the ships passengers who would not relinquish their extravagant entertainment lifestyle even amidst the devastation of the colonies. This worked towards Lt. K. Reich and Lt. N. Reich’s advantage as their performances for the passengers earned them room and board within Cloud Nine’s cargo hold – plush accommodations when compared to most survivor’s living quarters in the fleet.
After the battle on New Caprica, which caused the loss of many Galactica pilots, Lt. K. Reich and Lt. N. Reich gave up the life of entertainers and volunteered as candidate pilots. Lt. Reich was inducted into service on the Battelstar Galactica and quickly earned her Raptor pilot’s wings.
Lt. Reich has received the Medal of Valor for bravery and valiant service during combat. During the battle in the Ionian Nebula, Lt. Reich dove her Raptor in-between a Cylon Raider and a damaged Viper. Lt. Reich’s Raptor took the brunt of the attack instead of the Viper, allowing time for the wingman to come around and destroy the Raider and ultimately saving the life of the damaged Viper’s pilot, Brendan “Hot Dog” Costanza. Eyewitnesses to this event claim that they saw the tail section of Lt. Reich’s Raptor shake violently back and forth just before the Cylon missiles struck her - a possible reason why all the engine mounts were found broken upon return to Galactica although Lt. Reich adamantly proclaims that it was the Raider's missiles instead. Chief continues to threaten to tie her hips down to the seat.
Upon reaching Earth, Lt. Reich and her husband chose to be placed in the lands between the fourth and fifth major continents. This area is primarily desert land but the people there clearly have a culture rich with song and dance. |
