As a techno-challenged person, I wanted to know the best formate to save images to this post. I attempted yesterday to post some background info. for my Valkyrie fiction. I tried both using jpeg files and bit maps. neither were successfully pasted. Are there any suggestions? Do I need any specific type of software? Thanks and please be patient with my lack of knowlege on the subject.

Wildcat, you first must have your picture posted somewhere on the net -- Photobucket, for example, if it's one of your pictures.

Once the picture is on the net, just get the url for it, and type [img ](insert the url here)[/img ] BUT without any spaces. (I had to put in spaces to show you the example.)

So to show you the below picture, I put [img ]http://www.af.mil/shared/media/photodb/web/060516-F-4098K-340.jpg[/img ] -- But without spaces:

It the picture is already on the net, just get the url for it (copy from the address bar) and put the img tags on either end!

barring that if you run into difficulties or have images you want to put up that aren't already on a site then send me a PM. I'll have you e-mail them to me and I'll host them here.

You want to stay away from bitmaps. They are huge, bloated Windows files with no compression at all. JPEG's, on the other hand, are optimized for the web - some software even lets you balance quality versus size when you optimize them. You definitely want to use JPEG's.

Also, if you save two versions of your file - the regular one you want to share, and a small "thumbnail" of the picture - then you can create a clickable link with the thumbnail being shown in your post and linked to the full size photo. The format to do this is:

[urltag=http://www.somesite.com/images/mypic.jpg][imgtag]http://www.somesite.com/images/mysmallpic.jpg[/img][/url]

Of course, you have to use the tags "url" and "img" for the forum to understand what you want. I had to add the word "tag" so that the example line didn't actually try to load a pic.

Here's an example:

>Click on the picture to view full-size<

(If you select "quote" as though to reply to this, you can see the way I structured the tags, and you can modify this to suit your needs.)
