ATTENTION READERS

A few quick things:

#1. I am sorry this has taken so long. Real life has been real busy and I just finished leading the last episode of Libra. Time is opening up for me and I am getting this episode rolling

#2. New format for this episode: Instead of one big post and all of the story up at once, I am doing this Libra style. In short, several small post over the next few weeks. If this proves to work out, then I will continue with this format for the rest of the series (except for the two special episodes at the end).

#3. As always, please feel free to comments in the new Readers Comments forum!

Thanks and enjoy!

-John

Arturo Ohara frowned, “Colonial Fueler is where prisoners are confined for weeks to cells with little food if they are found to not be working hard enough or for the smallest of infractions. The convention has to address this, Patrick.”

“The convention is set up a government to address these issues. If all goes well, we could have just that within two days” Greene said in a genuine tone of voice. “I know you, me and Humanity Watch want to address this…”

Ohara stood up to leave, “And we will, Patrick, today whether you like it or not.”

“There is no need to even imply a threat…”

“It’s not a threat Mr. Chairman” Ohara said as he walked away “It’s a promise, trust me on this one.”

Day 62
2132

Kayla opened the first box. It contained a small electrical board, an earTunes player, batteries, solder and a soldering iron. She opened the second box and looked upon three grayish cylinders. The cylon shook her head and let out a deep sigh.

There is only one way to get these past the security. Even for a Cylon, this is going to be…discomforting.

Taurus Port Launch Bay
Day 63

LT. JG Francis was about to make her way to her cockpit when she looked back at her commanding officer. “Okay…nothing is going on between you two. He’s still hung up on his dead fiancé from what I’ve seen. He even carries her photo into missions still. It’s just a rumor we all heard…and maybe that is a good thing.”

“Why?”

“I’ve heard he’s hung like a champion Caprican race horse that has been put out to stud.” Francis evilly grinned. "I wouldn't want my CO to be walking around sore all the time."

Major Watkins now bushed brightly and stammered on her words, “Get…in your viper, Franny!”

“Yessir!”

The Commander looked along with the Colonel as Wu continued. “The Ranger Scouts were loaded with data to look at Colonial military and known Cylon signals. It had nothing to reference for anything else. Now, if I add in other known signals, we get a result.”

As the computer executed its review, the data used the new known frequency data. Commander Guynes slowly took off his glasses and couldn’t believe what he saw.
Quote:
SIGNAL KNOWN: Frequency 1530 GHz – Colonial Maritime Craft;
Colonial Civilian Signature Unknown.

“Lt. Wu, my first question is are you sure about this?” Guynes asked cautiously. “I mean damn sure?”

“Colonel Wilson confirmed it with data independently, as well as Dr. Dunnavan on Discovery.” Wu said confidently. “What ever emitted this signal did so for 18.2 seconds, sir.”

“Mother nature doesn’t stay locked onto a frequency that steady, Commander.” Wilson added. “Someone is out there.”

Lycanthrope CIC
Day 63
2200

[“Intrepid Actual this is Merton on Lycanthrope. We’re ready to Jump. And I promise we’ll take good care of your Lt. Butler; we’ll even feed him. Gods willing we’ll return with another ship. Merton out.”]

“Okay, Pack, let’s do it.”

The jumpstar Jumped away from the Battlestars Intrepid and Taurus, and the rest of the rag tag fleet.

Admiral Jacobs watched as the DRADIS blip that was the Lycanthrope disappeared from the monitor. May the blessings and the protection of the Gods go with you.

Intrepid Episode #14 - Under One Flag, Pt.2
With guest writers Goldwolf and Silverlantern.
-----------------------------------------------------------------

Nimbus
Day 64
0145

(w/Goldwolf)

Quote:
She knew they were hunting for her. For the first time, the three model known as Kayla Welch was scared for her life.

I have to make it to the bay. If I can get to a heavy raider, safety will be just a matter of a…

Kayla instinctively ducked before the bullets from the centurion could hit her. She came to a fork in the hallway and went left, towards the safety of the heavy raiders. The hall was unusually dark in the baseship. Not even the familiar red pulsing light could be seen.

Almost there…I’m going to live!

As Kayla turned the corner, she could see a figure off in the distance. The next thing she heard was a single gun shot. As she dropped to her knees, she could hear the footsteps of the figure walking up to her.

As Kayla looked up, she could see a Simon model leveling a gun at her head. As he slowly pulled the trigger, the hunted Cylon glimpsed a figure standing behind the cylon. She couldn’t make out her features, but the voice was not Cylon.

In fact, the unknown woman’s voice was hard and held a gloating satisfaction. “She is an obstacle in your path," she said to the Simon model. It sounded like an order. "Remove her."

Kayla woke up from the dream and nearly screamed. She looked around her cabin and after a few moments, calmed down. The cylon wiped her brow and felt sweat on her hand.

Why did I just dream my own death?

Day 64
0543

The filibuster of the governmental convention had broken down a few hours earlier. The small group of delegates that had fought to spotlight the plight of prisoners just could not keep enough members awake.

Arturo Ohara now sat outside the office of Chairman…waiting for Patrick Greene to arrive. He knew that if there was any hope for his agenda, it would be at the mercy of Greene.

We stand a snowballs chance Hell with him. All is lost…

Anthony Ito opened the door and had a smile on his face, “Mr. Ohara, please come in and have a seat.”

Ohara looked at the empty desk after entering the room, “Where is the chairman, Mr. Ito?”

“He will be here in about fifteen minutes. I thought we’d take a few minutes to talk…just us.” Ito handed him a cup of coffee. “I have a way to move your agenda forward…if you support a project that Representative Mattis and I put together.”

“Mr. Ito, why should I help you?” Arturo frowned. “I know you were responsible for encouraging some of…my supporters to oversleep so a quorum vote could be called to bust our protest.”

“Mr. Ohara, they had a change of heart and saw that progress was not in your little protest. Now, I can arrange for Humanity Watch’s agenda to be buried…but I could be your best friend in all of this.” Ito handed Mr. Ohara a folder, “Take a look…I think you will find things are not a bleak as you think.”

After a few minutes of reading, Arturo Ohara closed the folder and slid it back to Ito. “So, I sell my soul to the Chairman…”

“Mr. Chairman knows nothing of this. He will be as surprised as you are when it goes to the floor for a vote this morning. It’s not like you will be totally alone when it is presented. There will be others with you on the podium” Anthony smirked. “In return for your support and your people backing it, I will personally make sure Humanity Watch’s agenda gets forwarded to the Quorum. Of course, if you can not agree to this, then I will arrange for your plans to be buried so deep they will never see the light of day.”

“You know, I would like to wad this up and shove it somewhere on you, but then you have not left me much choice. Lives mean more to me than your petty games.” Arturo hung his head low for a few moments and looked Ito in the eyes. “Okay…because I feel the lives on Colonial Fueler and elsewhere are more important, you win.”

A smile broke across the face of Ito, “Don’t think of this as a loss…think of it as bridging across a divide and coming together.”

“Either way, I have a rotten taste in my mouth.”

Taurus Ready Room - Briefing
Day 64
0557

"Okay, Franny and Juice will team with Raven and run our part of the morning patrol." Maj. Sabrina Watkins said. "The rest of the Black Hats will be in or near the ready room should the frak hit the fan this morning."

Sabrina looked up and noticed the empty chair at the front of the room. Before anyone really noticed, she flipped a page and went on with the briefing.

"Pitbulls, you will be on afternoon watch. Breaker, Bawls will join up with Rat. So far, none of our scouts have detected Cylon activity, but that doesn't mean much. Civilian side, the convention may be making some news today..."

"Wait sir, I thought you said no Cylon activity was detected?" 2nd Lt. Jerry 'Juice' Ballard said with a smirk. "Politicians have to be Toasters...seems like they're inhuman and programmed."

Various pilots laughed a bit. Watkins raised an eyebrow.

"Sorry Juice, but the Admiral won't let me put them all in a shuttle and then nuke it..."

Lycanthrope
Day 64
1000

(With Silverlantern)

Lt. Kevin Butler had finished the last of his preliminary checks on Ranger Scout Three. In six to eight hours, they would be in range of the 'signal of interest.'

Other humans out this far? Maybe but I'm not hopeful, Butler thought sd he exited the scout and sealed the hatch. Either way...

"How's your bird look, Lieutenant?" Mike 'Ox' Osten, the deck chief asked him, breaking Butler's train of thought. "I assure you, we haven't done any tampering." He laughed.

"I just wanted to make sure that none of my squad members left any surprises in the small commode." Butler smiled. "She's ready to go and listen when we get to where we are going."

Ox nodded. "signal of interest. It could be another ship, other survivors.. or a cylon trap."

"And that is the million cubit question. Is it life, or is there a Toaster on the other end?"

"If it's a trap, you haul your ass back here." ox wasn't commanding the younger an, but was concerned nonetheless. "Let Lycanthrope say hello to the frakkers."

"First sign and I am running back here, trust me on that one." Butler tried not to yawn, "So, where can I find a strong cup of coffee around here?"

"That'd be the Officers' Mess." The elderly Gwen Wyatt replied, having just arrived in the hangar bay. "The name's Gremlin, sonny. Come along and we'll have a cup."

Day 64
1421

Patrick Greene watched as Darren Mattis approached the podium. This was the moment the Chairman had been waiting for since the start of the convention. Constitutional vote results are in…dear Gods, let this go well.

Mattis, a representative from Silver Falls didn’t even look at Greene. He angled the microphone to speak and then opened the envelope. “By a vote 92 yes, 11 no and 3 abstentions, the amended Articles of Colonization have passed.”

A cheer went up throughout the room. Representatives reached across and shook the hands of other reps and staff. Patrick Greene smiled as he stood and approached the podium. He shook the hand of Rep. Mattis before speaking.

“Ladies and Gentlemen, this is a great day for the fleet. Today, we have taken a major step to restoring our way of life. Although we have a long ways to go, the goal of a government for the people and by the people is about to be realized.”

Anthony Ito stood at the back of the auditorium and applauded his boss. Best thing is, with the amendment added this morning by Mr. Mattis and friends, you get to hold on to your Quorum seat. We’re both still employed and that is a great thing…

Kayla Welch stood with the Pride of Aquaria group applauding and keeping appearances up. Time is running out…I will have to do it soon.

She smiled as another cheer went up in the room, Very soon.

Admiral Jacobs had listened to the wireless broadcast of the convention results in the CIC. He smiled somewhat after the results had been read. One more step to normalcy…

“One more step back to circuses, Tom” Major Lia Davis said with a grin. “Hopefully Greene was not be the true ring leader in all of this. My Gods, they made it where he gets to keep a quorum seat. Talk about 11th hour deals.”

“Look on the bright side, the civilians will have something that they want. Besides, it’ll be nice to have another target in the barrel with me for the media to shoot at.” Jacobs smiled as he handed the Major a piece of paper. “Please have comms release this congratulatory statement to the fleet, please.”

“We’ll do, sir.”

Captain Andy Meyers sat in his chair and listened to the convention. With another step of a civilian government complete, a smile went on his face.

They can have what we're doing in the Captains Union soon enough. I feel sorry for the poor bastard that gets saddled with the presidency...

Lycanthrope / Ranger 4
Day 64
1700

(with Silverlantern)

"Control, this is Scout 4. I show zero atmosphere in the bay." Lt. Butler reported. "All systems are nominal and I'm ready for launch."

["Confirmed, 4; there is zero atmosphere in the bay. You may now launch."]

The pilot carefully exited the bay and moved to the three kilometer mark and began as scan after a few minutes, Butler was satisfied with the reading. "Lycanthrope, initial scans came up negative for any reading. Jumping ahead to get further reading. I'll be back in two hours."

['This is Merton, Lycanthrope Actual. Good hunting, Butler. Det your alarm for two hours, cuz if you aren't back in time, we'll have to send a shuttle your way."]

"Will do, Captain. Ranger Scout 4 out."

Moments later, the scout jumped away in a sudden flash.

Battlestar Taurus
Day 64
2100

Captain Lane Azmos smiled as the ‘knuckle dragger’ project came together. Actually, it had grown to a ship-wide project. How the commander and his wife have not heard about this is beyond me.

“Shall we start putting the last touches together, sir?” Specialist Ed Wadeford said with a smile.

“The mattress, blankets and pillows are in my office in a box under my desk.”

“I’ll be back in a moment.”

Azmos stood and smiled. The project started with the remains of two wooden crates. Over the last two days, they had been taken apart, sanded, painted and reassembled into something better and more useful. The chief engineer looked at the four cribs with pride.

Lt. Mitch Taylor, assistant chief engineer stood next to his boss. After a few moments, he finally spoke, “So, what do we do with the other three, Lane?”

“We have three other women pregnant on this ship and we still have a lot of torn-down crate wood in storage. Least we can do is give them a crib.”

“Boss, I’m sure there will be other children and even the need for a nursery if this keeps up.”

Lane smiled, “We’ll keep doing this quietly then until we run out of wood and scrap…”

Governmental Convention
Day 65

Interim Presidential Candidates wrote:
Malcolm Poulastides: I would like to thank Mr. Abair and Mr.Ohara for having the faith and trust to nominate me Interim President. If elected by this body, I will work hard to shepard the fleet through the election of a president, vice president and quorum. I will also work closely with Admiral Jacobs in bringing the military and civilian authorities close together…

Kelly Washburn: We stand at a great moment for this fleet as we take one step closer to returning to a government of the people and for the people. If elected, I will quickly get the election process started and help move us from military control to civilian leadership…

Carl Rattiford: I am surprised and honored that several of you have asked me to run for this position that will hopefully be short lived. I promise that if you should elect me as interim president, I will get us to election and a fully elected government as quickly as possible.

The Cylon known as Kayla Welch uncomfortably smiled as she listened to three more candidates for Interim Presidency for the Election Council. At least I smuggled in what I needed on a test run. Soon, I’ll carry out the real thing…

She shifted in her chair again to get into a more comfortable position. If this convention has proven anything to me, humans like to talk more than Cavils or Leobens.

Ranger Scout 4
One Day from NGC-9155
Day 65
1342

Captain Butler had arrived at the new target zone after leaving Lycanthrope at Launch Zone Seven. Even though it was still a long ways and several jumps off, Nebula NGC-9155 appear in the distance.

As he started to run his scans, Butler switched on his audio log recorder.

"Arrived at Target Zone Seven three minutes ago and I've started my deep scan for any radio activity at this time. Even though it is roughly a day to a day and a half away, I can clearly see the nebula of NGC-9155. Looking at my equipment, the nebula also appears as a plethora of radio activity. As in the previous six zones, the signal from the colonial craft has not reappeared. I will continue with scans for an hour and a half and then return to Lycanthrope."

As he reached for the switch to turn off the recorder, Kevin smiled and added one last comment. Need to give someone some entertainment...I'd be bored out of my head if I had to listen to all of this.

"On a side note to the folks who run Taurus' galley: Please find out where Captain Merton and crew found their coffee. If there is none of it in the fleet that we can procure or confiscate, please cut a deal with Merton to get some. It's way better than what we currently have. Time is 13:47 and turning off voice log for now."

Battlestar Intrepid
Fleet CAG Office
Day 65
15:56

Majors Bruce Lazwell and Sabrina Watkins had been meeting over air wing realignments and squad mergers. Although lengthy, a lot had been accomplished by the two senior pilots.

Bruce opened up the last folder in front of him, "One last thing before we call it a day, Sabrina."

"One last thing, sounds good. What is it?"

"I'm going to need a CAG for Intrepid. With the death a Captain Garrison in the last battle and the responsibilities that the Admiral has given me...I need someone."

Watkins slowly looked over, "Who do you have in mind?"

"Lt. Butler is who I want to tap for the job." Lazwell said. "Sometime the two of us don't see eye to eye, but he's a good pilot and his work with the Rangers has earned him the job. I'll give him an initial test run and if it all works out, promote him to captain."

"Well, you are getting the Black Hats, so he would be a good choice."

"I do have to ask you one more question, Major." Bruce looked at her somewhat nervously. "It's about you and Lt. Butler. Some rumors have gotten back to me about the two of you...and a few pilots have voice their concerns to me."

Sabrina looked at her superior somewhat coldly, "I can assure you that it is all of a personal nature and is private if you are asking about our relationship."

There was an small, but uncomfortable pause while the F-CAG thought about what Watkins had said. Lazwell then shook his head in agreement.

"Ok, I've known you long enough that I know I take your word on that then. If you two are going to be CAGs, you will need to work on a professional level." Laswell looked Watkins in the eyes, "If I hear personal and professional is mixing, then I have to get involved. Keep it clean."

"I understand, sir." Watkins quickly stood. "Anything else, sir?"

"No. Transfers and realignment occurs tomorrow at noon. Dismissed."

Intrepid - CO's Quarters
Day 65
1805

Admiral Jacobs sat at his desk, going over paperwork. He heard a knock on the door. He took off his reading glasses and called out, "Come on in."

Maj. Lia Davis entered the room, still in her duty uniform. "You wanted to see me, Tom?"

"Yup...come on in and have a seat. Care for anything to drink?"

"If the Admiral is opening the liquor cabinet and offering, I'll take a round of what ever is the best."

Jacobs smiled as he picked up a bottle and a couple of glasses, "The XO has good taste. I have one bottle of really good Ambrosia from Aquaria. Actually, I have two, but one is going to be a gift to Commander Guynes and his wife after the baby is born."

"Good gift."

"If they don't drink it, they can always use it for soothing the baby's gums when he or she starts to cut teeth." Tom smiled as he poured the drinks, "Always worked for me and on my kids."

"Good point." Lia took a drink from her glass, "So, what do you have on your mind for this meeting?"

"Tomorrow is the election of...the Interim President. I need someone to overview the election tomorrow and confirm the results on the day after."

Lia's looked at Jacobs with a raised eyebrow, "So, you want me to babysit the civilian circus? Okay...I can do that."

"It won't be so bad. The military has been asked to guard the balloting and confirm the votes." Jacobs took a swig from his glass and then refiled each glass. "You'll be working with the civilian head of security and Marine Captain. Marduex. It should be a cakewalk."

"Okay. Who is going to step in for me here?" Lia asked.

"Well, soon to be Captain Trevors. We'll promote him at the start of the first shift tomorrow morning."

The major smiled, "He's earned it. Okay boss, you're in good hands then...I'll go."
