Lycanthrope CIC
Day 90

Gwynn 'Grimlin' Wyatt looked up from her station at comms and electronics, "Taurus Comms has us in the loop finally."

"Thank you, Col. Wilson." Captain Merton said. "Push it to the speakers!"

Quote:
“Intrepid Control, I found the signal and it’s coming from Pan Galactic 1190. Repeat, Pan Galactic 1190 is where the problem is coming from!”

The mood of everyone in CIC changed. Merton looked over at Lycanthrope's Security Officer, Corinna Harrison, "Get me data on 1190."

After a few moments of pulling up the data, Corinna looked back at Merton, "Commanded by Captain Bryan White, 850 passengers."

"Dammit..." was all Merton could mutter as the roar of the KEWs and point defense guns continued.

Maj. Trevors looked at Admiral Jacobs, “And it all started right before the jump!”

“They’re transmitting something and it has to be attached to their DRADIS and jump systems somehow.” Tom said as he looked at the Comms station, “Order Captain White to shut off his DRADIS and jump computer!”

Kelli Darva looked at the Admiral in shock, “Sir?”

“Tell them to shut those two systems down, right frakkin’ now, Specialist!”

Kelli contacted PG 1190 and relayed the information to Captain White. At this point, she pushed the communications to the main speaker.

”Intrepid, we’re trying but it won’t shut down! Repeat, we can’t get it to shut down.” The desperation could be heard in the voice of Captain Bryan White.

Pan Galactic 1190
Day 90
0237

Captain Bryan White desperately looked at his co-pilot, “Mark, have engineering pull the power to those systems, now!”

“But we’ll be stuck with sublight!” Mark replied. “We’ll be dead.”

“Do it, now!”

“I won’t…it will kill us, Bryan!”

The captain pleaded with his XO, “Something is wrong and we are causing it more than likely. We can get everyone to shuttles and into the life pods...”

An alarm ripped through the bridge. Mark looked down at the sensors, “Three missiles on a direct path with us. Executing evasive maneuvers!”

Bryan looked out the large cockpit portals and watched the incoming missiles. They were not fired from a Cylon ship, but from Intrepid. White watched as the missiles closed in on his ship. As Mark tried to move PG-1190 out of the way, the Captain closed his eyes and prayed silently to the Gods.

Ten seconds later, all three missiles struck Pan Galactic 1190, shattering the ship into pieces. As the explosions and the vacuum of space claimed the lives of all aboard, the signal that blinded the fleet faded away.

Maj. Bruce Lazwell -FCAG
Dogfights

Major Lazwell had heard the entire exchange on the command channel on his radio. Moments before the missiles were fired, he had ordered any craft to clear the orbit around PG 1190. He watched as the liner tried to get away in vain.

When the missiles arrived on target, all Bruce could do is watch as PG 1190 ripped apart. He knew the reasons why Admiral Jacobs ordered the ships' destruction, but is was still difficult to see it carried out.

As the final flames died away, the Major keyed his mic, "Fleet CAG to Fleet Actual: all three missiles impacted on target. Pan Galactic 1190 destroyed, sir."

For several moments, the command members of The Pack were at their stations in stunned silence. The reports of the destruction of the PG-1190 shocked even these hardened survivalist.

Captain Merton was the first to speak, "Admiral Jacobs did what he had to do. We'll mourn later, lets just get through this."

Pilot Max 'Sol' Soligen looked up from his station, "FTL sensor interference is clearing. I need to reboot the sensors so I can take a good jump reading."

Merton looked at Sol, "Make it happen so we can get the hell out of here."

Tom Jacobs closed his eyes and said a silent prayer for the souls lost on PG 1190. It was the last thing he thought he'd ever do, but for everyone else to have a chance, he had to. Gods forgive me for that...but I had no choice. After a few moments, the vibrations of the ships guns brought him back to the here and now.

When he opened his eyes again, Maj. Trevors stood across from him at the command table, "Sir, electronic interference is subsiding. Several ships reporting that they have to restart their FTL computers and sensors...the interference crashed them. Some ships are not reporting in"

"We need to buy the fleet some more time. Get these frakking Cylons out of here."

"And what about us?"

Tom looked at Darren sharply, "Worry about us later. I just killed a ship full of people so everyone else could have a chance."

Before the XO could even react to what the Admiral had just said, he noticed several ships start to disappear on DRADIS, "What the frak is going on?"

"And some of the raiders are leaving as well. Shit!" Tom grabbed the handset that was connected to Taurus, "William, this looks like it is going to get worse. Get everyone out of here...that is an order!"

Tom grabbed the handset that was connected to Taurus, "William, this looks like it is going to get worse. Get everyone out of here...that is an order!"

Before picking the handset back up, Cmdr. Guynes looked at his XO, "Have the fleet start putting distance between themselves and us. Order Merton to jump the fleet as soon as possible."

Dean looked at William, "And what abut us?"

William didn't bother to answer Dean. He grabbed the handset, "Taurus Actual to Fleet Actual: I'm sending the civilians running and the vipers are clearing out the last of the Cylons stragglers."

“Get what’s left of the civilians and get the frakking hell out of here Commander. That is an order!”

"And what about you and Intrepid? We can't leave you here...the Cylons are bound to come back."

"We'll be along shortly after the tug attaches itself."

William shook his head. He knew that damage that Intrepid had taken, "With all due respect sir...it will take six hours for the tug to reconnect. The Cylons know they have you...it's time to save yourselves. Abandon ship, Admiral!"

With those words uttered, it seemed like everyone and everything stopped in the Taurus CIC. If the proverbial pin was dropped, one could almost imagine all dozen or so crewmen would hear it hit the floor. As William waited for an answer, the DRADIS lit up again with two new large objects.

Within moments, the two unknown blips were IDed: Cylon baseships. More blips popped onto the DRADIS as well. Raiders were being launched...the Cylons were back to finish the fleet off.

“William, get the frak out of here when the civilian ships jump. Combat land all Vipers and then jump…that is my final order to you." Jacobs said. After the order was given, there was a pop and static. Guynes looked over at Specialist Gilmore at Comms with a raised eyebrow.

The Specialist gulped and locked eyes with his Commander, "Transmission ended, Intrepid closed the line, sir..."

Cylon Baseship - CIC
Same moment

One smiled at the others, "It seems like our operation has been a success so far. Time to finish them off. Finally...another bit of humanity is about to die. Now, if we can just finish off Libra, Galactica and what ever Captain Black Jack Mayer is calling his little group this week."

"Don't get over-confident brother, we still have to dispatch Intrepid and her fleet." A Six cautioned, "First things first, One."

Four closed his eyes for a moment as he interfaced into the command matrix, "Raiders report about half the the human fleet was captured. They also met stiff resistance and lost a lot of craft...in fact, it was an 85% loss during the attack. The humans fought...'valiantly?'. I guess those are the words I was looking for."

One raised and eyebrow, "Time to make the humans a one-hundred percent loss. Most of our raiders are inbound to Taurus and the other ships. The other craft will be joining as we take out the disabled Intrepid."

"As the humans would say, this is a 'mop-up' operation at this point." Five said with a smirk on his face. "Lets finish them off so we can deal with the others."

Two raised an eyebrow, almost glaring at the Five in the powder-blue suit, "Beware, brother: every time we have thought we were about to 'clean up' the humans, they've thwarted us. Eliminate them first before you even entertain the thought of success."

"Well, lets get down to the job of elimination then, Two." One stated with a slight smirk on his face. "Take us on a direct course to Intrepid...it's time to deal with Admiral Jacobs for the last time."

Battlestar Intrepid
CIC

In the middle of CIC, all attention had turned to the command table. Admiral Jacobs slowly turned his head and looked at the others with a sense of sadness. He knew that if they stayed in the CIC, everyone would die…no doubt about it in his mind.

"Navigation put us on a direct course between the Cylons ships. Lay in the course and lock the system. " Tom ordered. "Set weapons to automatic fire. Maj. Trevors, order all hands to abandon ship."

"Yes sir, I will put us on direct course with automatic fire and order all hands abandon ship." The major said stoically.

As people carried out their last orders and began to scramble out of CIC Admiral Jacobs assumed command of the weapons fire control station. Col. Steven Pretrivich noticed this from his position at the hatch. "Admiral, are you coming, sir?"

"I will be staying on to launch nuclear weapons carry out the final strike to destroy the Cylons. Don’t worry, I'll be along shortly." Thomas said, although he knew he would die if he stayed.

Upon hearing this, several of the remaining members of CIC looked at the Admiral and either stayed at their stations or return to them. Thomas looked at the remaining people shook his head. "You are all going to die if you stay here with me...you have a chance to live. You know where the fleet is going to be…get out, now."

"Sir, someone has to protect you and CIC if we are boarded." Col. Pretrivich said in a matter-of-fact tone. “With all due respect, if you are staying, so am I.”

Major Trevors looked at the two men and smiled, "If automation fails, you'll need someone to make sure that they can navigate the ship into the target, Tom. Also it does take two launch keys to deliver a nuclear alpha strike."

Specialist Kelli Darva looked at the men with the stoic look on her face, "I have been trained in every position and CIC. If someone gets hurt, I can step in. I'm staying Admiral."

Thomas Jacobs paused and looked at his crewmen. He took a deep breath and closed his eyes and exhaled. "If you all stay here, you're going to die. Do you understand that?”

"Thomas, Cylon raiders are two minutes away from our position. Cylon baseships will be in range at the same time. We will be in point-blank range in three minutes." Trevors said. "Admiral, what are your orders?"

Thomas shook his head, "You are all certifiably nuts! You are going to die if you stay and still you’ve chosen to go down with me…I am honored."

"Well Thomas, if I am going to die let's take out some walking and flying toasters. Honestly sir, I can't think of a better group of people to die with." Col. Pretrivich said as he closed the hatch to CIC.

"Okay ladies and gentlemen, assume your stations.” Thomas said. “Maj. Trevors, are we on a direct course to the Cylons?"

"Navigation control shows Intrepid is still on a direct course with the Cylons, Admiral." Trevors said.

Tom looked around and CIC, "Okay, let's give the Cylons something they'll never forget. I want defensive fire to cocoon us so if a raider or missile gets too close, they get taken out."

Those who remained in CIC knew more than likely they were dead. They also knew that they were buying time for the rest of the fleet to escape. In short, they knew there was no way out.

Aux Con
Same time

Quote:
All hands, this is the Executive Officer. Abandon ship! Once again, all hands...abandon ship! Head to your evacuation points and abandon ship. This is not a drill...

Lt. Amanda Bays looked around Auxiliary Control at the other five people in the room, "You heard the Major, time to get out."

Ensign Sarah Davis looked at the DRADIS, "The only problem is, when we reach the hanger...we'll be on top of the baseships, sir."

Everyone looked back at Amanda at that point, realizing the truth of Ensigns' words. "Okay, if you want to get out and head for the port landing bay or grab an egress suit and jump out a hatch...go. If you are still here in ten seconds, then we'll seal up Aux Con. When whatever happens is done, we'll break out the suits in the storage locker and get out."

After ten seconds, not a person had left the room. Lt. Bays looked over at the Marine standing guard, "Grab anyone in the hall that wants to come in...and then seal the hatch."

"Aye, sir!" was his response.

Bays then looked at Ensign Davis, "As soon as he closes and locks down the hatch, take Aux Con off of ship environmental and put us on our emergency backups."

Sarah took a deep breath, realizing the seriousness of the order, "Aye, Lieutenant."

Battlestar Taurus
CIC

"One-hundred and twenty five enemy craft on a direct course for us, Commander. ETA is seventy-five seconds." Col. Dean Wilson said. "Fleet will be ready to jump in six minutes."

"Put us between the fleet and the Cylons. Order KEWs to go to proximity frag rounds. Lay down their firing solution in front of our fighters." Cmdr. Guynes ordered. "Comms, directed Maj. Lazwell that vipers and raptors are to engage anything that gets in. Once we establish defensive firing line and the civilians jump, we'll order combat landings."

"Yes sir" Specalist Gilmore said.

Lt. Nick Wu looked over to the command table from his position at tactical, "Sir, Intrepid has itself on a direct course for the Cylons. I'm also detecting Raptors and shuttles are leaving her, sir."

William closed his eyes for a moment. It was like being punched in the gut again. He knew his friends were going in and more than likely were not coming out. Even if he charged in, by the time Taurus got there it would all be over.

Finally, William responded. "Noted...continue operations as ordered. The moment the raiders are in range, blast them Lieutenant."

"Aye sir! All KEW report change out to anti-small craft fragment rounds will be complete in thirty seconds. Fourty-five seconds until enemy contact."

Good luck and Gods speed, Tom. Guynes then looked at the DRADIS and then at Col. Wilson, "Jump us the first chance you get."

Dean took a deep breath, "Yes sir..."

The Four glanced up from command matrix with his jaw dropped, "Intrepid is on a direct course for us. Does the Admiral not understand that this is suicide?"

Cavil just rolled his eyes and had a smirk on his face, "Oh, dear brother! Do you not see that the gallant Admiral knows his fate and is going to try to do something spectacular anyways? You only see the logic, or lack thereof, in his actions. This is why I have never been a big fan of emotions. They are… in the way."

"Well, emotions or not Adm. Jacobs is on the way." An Eight said. "We have to eliminate him before he gets too close with his ship."

A Two that had been looking down at the control matrix that during the entire discussion glanced up and looked at the others cautiously, "You take Thomas Jacobs for granted. You think you have such a clear understanding of this human and that has been our problem…with all of the humans. You think too much like Cylons and that is to your folly."

"Since the start of our little… ‘cleansing operation’, humans have used their emotions and illogic to beat us at every turn." Six said annoyingly at One. "And if we don't act fast this emotional human will cause us all to download."

"Then let's quit bantering in get the job done." One said with a frown on his face. "I swear, some of you would rather be a human than be Cylons."

And sometimes brother, I think you will be the death of us all, The Four Model thought to himself. "One minute until Intrepid is within weapons range."

Admiral Jacobs looked over at Major Trevors as Intrepid closed on the Cylon baseships, "Thirty seconds to enemy contact. Insert your launch key, Darren."

Maj. Trevors did as he was told. An alarm blared throughout the CIC. Specialist Kelli Darva nervously looked at the two commanding officers, "Cylons Raiders have locked on and some of them have nukes, Admiral!"

"Understood but we need to stay on target. Major, keep the hatches on our nukes covered until the last moment…we’ll emergency blow them off and then launch."

"Understood." Trevors looked up at the DRADIS, “Sir, some of our vipers appear to of disobeyed orders."

"Well, its too fraking late to do anything now. Hopefully, if any Raiders or missiles get through, our guys will knock them down."

It was at this point the radiological alarm became even louder and Specialist Darva looked over from her position, "Sirs, Cylon raiders have launched twelve nuclear missiles at us. ETA is fifteen seconds."

"All defensive batteries, open fire!" Admiral Jacobs said as he looked at the DRADIS.

Kinetic rounds left their cannons on a direct trajectory towards the Cylon nukes. Within moments, eleven of the missiles were destroyed. One remaining nuclear missile was on a direct course for Intrepid. The CIC staff watched the DRAIDS as the missiles slipped past the defensive fire and braced for impact.

It was at that moment, a viper intercepted the missile. Lt. Travis ‘Wraith’ Stover had no rounds left in either gun. He used the last weapon he had left -- his ship. Wraith rammed the nuke at full speed moments before it exploded. He died knowing that one less missile had made it through.

Before anyone in CIC could say anything, the DRADIS lit up again. This time, the Cylon fighters salvo-launched 45 anti-ship missiles. The KEWs fired nonstop in their attempt to stop the missiles, but they could not get them all. Fifteen missiles struck the great battlestar all across her hull.

Then the Raiders played their last card: they set themselves on a direct course to Intrepid and the remaining vipers. They carried out their suicidal attack with their cannons blazing. Several were destroyed along the way, but ten Cylon craft found their marks. Four vipers were destroyed and the remaining six rammed several of the defensive guns and mainline KEWs of Intrepid.

But after all this, Intrepid was still on target. She was damaged and atmosphere was beginning to leak out...but she was still on a direct course for the baseships.

Major Trevors glanced down from the DRADIS and looked at Admiral Jacobs, "All missiles now in range of the baseships."

"Lock ship-to-ship missiles and fire, Major. Hold nuclear weapons until my orders." Jacobs then locked eyes with Trevors, "Turn nuclear missile key to the armed position in three, two, one…arm!"

"Missiles armed, sir.” Darren then took a moment and smiled, "It's been an honor to call you a friend, Thomas.”

"Same here, my old pal. Either way this ends, I'll see you on the other side...what ever side that is." Thomas said with a slight smile.

Major Trevors smiled as well, "You got that damn straight...sir."

Alarms rang again in CIC, this time it was the Cylon baseships opening fire with their missiles. Specialist Darva bit her lower lip, "Ten nuclear missiles inbound…wait…sixteen are closing on us! ETA fifteen seconds."

"Turn five degrees to starboard to bring more defensive batteries in arc!" Jacobs ordered. "That will still keep us on a general trajectory to the Cylons."

The gunfire did take out nearly all of the nuclear weapons. Several of the ship-to-ship missiles from the Cylons struck Intrepid. Four of them impacted along the port–side launch tubes. The one nuclear missile that got through struck in the same spot moments later.

Fire erupted in the hangar, igniting several fuel lines. An explosion followed moments later that ripped open along side the port launch tubes. The hangar was exposed to space, killing all that had survived the first two impacts in the area.

Another set of eight ship to ship missiles impacted near Intrepid's Engineering section. They hit close enough together to blow through the armor and breach the walls of engineering. Most of the engineers had decided to remain on station…and most never knew what hit them. Several were killed by shrapnel but most were taken quickly by exposure to space as the atmosphere bled out.

Intrepid's missiles had found their marks as well. The spindle like arms of the baseships were shattered and drifted into space on fire. The core of the ships had not escaped damage. Fire and escaping atmosphere could be seen bleeding into space. As the Cylons tried to reload, Intrepid grew ever closer…until it seemed like you could reach out and touch the Colonial warship.

Fire was beginning to engulf the right side of CIC. The fire suppression system that was supposed to protect the CIC had failed. Two more Cylon anti-ship missiles hit Intrepid near the CIC. Part of the wall near navigation and communications exploded, burying itself in the back and neck of specialist Kelli Darva.

As she slumped forward, Kelli’s head hit the communications panel. Her cheek pressed down on a button that reopened ship to ship transmissions. The handset near Admiral Jacobs had become ajar and picked up his every word.

Thomas glanced around the CIC, "It has been an honor to serve with all of you. May the Gods be with us…"

"Admiral, we're in point-blank range, all missiles show ready!" Major Trevors. "It's now or never."

“LAUNCH ALL NUKES AND HOLD ON TO SOMETHING!” Thomas said at the top of his voice.

Both Trevors and Jacobs turned their missile keys from ‘armed’ to ‘fire’. The explosives on the hatches on sixteen missile silos fired and lifted away the heavily armored plates.

Two seconds later, the missiles leapt from their silos. Eight immediately turned on a direct course to the baseship on the port side. The remaining eight took a nearly direct path straight to the other Cylon capital ship.

The Cylon baseship to the port side of Intrepid fired its four remaining nuclear weapons. As the combatants opened fire on each other with their deadliest of weapons, neither side noticed that a new player had arrived on the battlefield.

That new player went by the name Libra.

0241, Day 90
Libra CIC

(Parts originally appeared in Libra Episode #19 - Courage and Glory)

Colonel Vansen saw the new blips on DRADIS, cylon vessels and Colonial ones, military and civilian. The battle was in progress.

"Condition One! Launch vipers! Forward batteries, take aim at that nearest baseship and fire!"

"Colonel, what looks to be the main fight is just out of weapons range." Capt. Hastings reported. "But we landed right in the big middle of a group of Cylon Raiders! They're heading directly for the other battlestar and the civilian ships."

"Then take out the Cylon craft and…" Vansen paused that the sound of the radiological alarm. "Captain, where those missiles heading?"

"Sir, Intrepid and the Cylons are exchanging nukes! Twenty missiles are in flight...and they will have found their targets long before we get there."

Vansen looked at the DRADIS and then back at Hastings, "Get me the commander of that other battlestar, now…and continue to clear out these Raiders."

"Yes sir!"

Cylon Baseship
CIC - Same moment as the Libra arrival

(Parts originally appeared in Libra Episode #19 - Courage and Glory)

The CIC was in flames. The Centurions that guarded the entry were destroyed in a blast. In shattered heaps of blood and flesh, several “biological” Cylons are dead. The hybrids’ “tub” was a sea of crimson partially splattered on the walls and floor.

Her head was ten feet from her body.

Fire control and ammunition were exhausted. Several parts of the ship were venting atmosphere. The fight for this baseship was all but over.

A Three model looked at the injured Four model. They were the only ones left alive in the CIC.

“We were fools, they are destroying the ships.” She paused in horror “They’ve launched nukes!”

The Four muttered as the CIC exploded “I hate being downloaded…”

As the nukes slammed into both baseships, they exploded into huge fireballs, showering Intrepid with shrapnel as she passed by. As the Colonial warship cleared the explosions, her engines fell dark. Lights along the hull which had not been destroyed in the fight flickered and turned dark.

Finally, Intrepid slowed and then halted. The only light that showed from her was the fires and explosions that riddled the hull of the once mighty warship.

Adm. Jacobs had been knocked to the floor, as well as everyone else in CIC during the final moments of the nuclear assault. He was disoriented and knew something was wrong when he tried to stand but was overcome by pain.

The red light of action stations could no longer be seen in the room. The fire of the CIC was the only thing that illuminated the room. "If you can hear me, get out!"

Thomas waited for any response, but there was none. The only things he could hear was the building fire in the high radiation alarms going off in the room. As he near blindly crawled across the floor, Tom could see the form of something just in front of him. It was the unconscious body of Col. Steven Pretrivich.

"Hold on, my friend…we'll be out of here in just a few moments." Jacob said as he tried to pull the body of the Marine. As he did so, he could feel his own strength going as he became more disoriented by. Finally, just short of the rear hatch, Tom could go no further. As he tried to look up, all he could see was the edge of a robe and black sandals.

He tried to look up, but felt the energy of his body being sapped out. As he started to lay his head on the deck, he muttered what he thought would be his last words as darkness overtook him.

"Do with me as you will… Do with me as…"

Capt. E. A. Merton allowed himself to somewhat smile. The course of the battle had turned dramatically in the Colonials favor. Most of the civilian fleet was still rebooting their FTL computers, but the leader of The Pack felt a lot better about their chances.

The overhead speakers were filled with communications of combat. Since the rival and confirmation of Libra, it was mixed with the sounds of welcome and business. As a Merton watched the DRADIS, there was one exchange that got his attention:

Quote:
"Major Watkins and Blackhats, sorry I'm a little late to the party. I found some new friends brought them with me." Lt. Kevin Butler reported.

Several in near-unison said 'Kevin?!' or 'Battlemaster?!'.

"Yeah, I live guys...long story. Shut up and light up toasters and I'll tell you later."

["I think that is my job to say..."] said Major Watkins

Capt. Merton raised an eyebrow and smiled as he looked across CIC, "Well, I guess we now know who we have thank for our rescue. We'll thank him personally when we get through this mess."

As others muttered in joy, Merton looked back up at the DRADIS. But our rescue comes with an apparent price. Come on Tom Jacobs…still be out there somewhere.
